Last 8 for JIMMY by Jamie Shaw

Jimmy White enjoyed his best run in a ranking event for almost two years as he reached the last 16 of the 2016 Paul Hunter Classic in Furth on Friday.

The 54-year-old, who is the oldest player on the professional tour, recorded three wins on the opening day of the season's fourth major to continue his fine recent resurgence.

Six-time World Championship finalist White has recently embarked on a radical new diet and practice regime and reaped the rewards at the Stadthalle in Germany as he overcame Jamie Curtis-Barrett, Xiao Guodong and Rod Lawler.

White produced a top break of 88 in defeating amateur qualifier Barrett 4-2, before firing in breaks of 54, 65 and 78 in dispatching China's Xiao Guodong by the same scoreline.

The former UK Champion then produced a solid match-play performance to ease past world number 45 Rod Lawler and set up a last 16 show-down with Welsh ace Michael White on Sunday.

White's run has already guaranteed him a place back among the world's top 100 and is his best since the Haining Open in October 2014.
